CPD Opportunities

 
Join our team of museum education experts to enhance your creative teaching skills to bring curriculum topics to life in your classroom and engage pupils in new and meaningful ways.

Our series of termly CPD webinar events will cover Art, History and STEM activity. They each last approximately 90 minutes and will take place after school hours, from 4:00pm – 5:30pm, giving you access to training opportunities that are flexible around your work commitments. These events are suitable for teachers, TA’s and students undertaking their PGCE.

Costs: £10 per delegate for non-members, £5 per delegate for members.

CPD events will take place via Zoom, and a link inviting you to these events will be sent to your preferred email address on the day of the event.

Inspiring Young Artists in Schools

Upcoming dates:   Tuesday 8th June 2021, 4:00pm - 5:30pm

In this art focused CPD webinar, you will meet Brian and Lisa in a live zoom session, to gain knowledge, skills and understanding of the following ideas:

  • Stories Through Art
    Learn how to describe the content and context of art works to primary aged children through fun language and active role play, to help pupils gain a deeper understanding of the stories that lie within artworks. We will also provide you with a series of suggested activities that you can try in your classroom.
     
  • Drawing Skills and Techniques
    Bring along your pencils and paper as we task you with some practical activities to try out, under the guidance of our Learning Team, to help you develop methods for teaching drawing to your pupils and raise your confidence with delivering these activities to improve the art skillset for your class.
     
  • Arts Award
    Learn how to successfully achieve the Arts Award qualification for your pupils through a simple 3 step process using activity already embedded into your creative curriculum, with support and guidance from the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum.
     
  • Q&A
    All of our CPD events will have opportunities for you to ask us questions about developing a creative curriculum, bringing topics to life and embedding engaging, hands-on activity into your school environment. We are here to support you and offer our experience to increase your confidence and knowledge for making learning fun, playful and memorable.
     

Bringing History to Life In Your Classroom

Upcoming dates:   Tuesday 15th June 2021, 4:00pm - 5:30pm

In this History focused CPD webinar, you will meet Sarah, Brian, Rich and Lisa, in a live zoom session to discover active and hands-on ways of engaging pupils with the history curriculum, taking inspiration from key areas of Coventry Museums collections.

  • A Timeline Approach to Local History
    Learn how to take pupils on a journey through key historical moments in local, British history, using role-play, reenactment and physical objects to bring the past to life, with the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum’s Learning Officer, Brian.
     
  • Bringing History to life, with STEM activities
    Explore ways to bring a richer understanding of history into the classroom, through activities based on a cross-curricular approach. Explore the use of STEM skills to bring schemes of work to life, by including tangible links and first-hand experiences, with Coventry Transport Museums Learning Officer, Sarah.
     
  • Reenacting the Romans
    Engage your pupils with Britain’s Roman History and be guided on how to enthuse pupils with this key curriculum topic through dramatic, theatrical approaches to your classroom activities with the Lunt Roman Fort’s Learning Officer, Rich.
     
  • Q&A

STEMulating Schools

Upcoming dates:  Tuesday 6th July 2021, 4:00pm - 5:30pm

In this STEM focused CPD webinar, you will meet Sarah, Lisa and Anja (link to Meet the Experts) in a live zoom session to gain confidence in teaching STEM based activities in the classroom in inspiring ways.

  • What is STEM
    An overview of what STEM is and how it can be embedded across the curriculum.
     
  • Using History to make STEM relatable
    Discover how History can give context to STEM activities and understand shared learning skills within the subjects. Gain insite into developing cross-curricular lessons and develop your confidence in translating scientific concepts into meaningful experiences for your pupils,with Coventry Transport Museums Brose Learning Officer, Sarah.
     
  • Playful STEM Experiences
    Unearth the playful nature that STEM based activity lends itself so well to, and the benefits this has on childhood developments. Discover ways to introduce safe engineering and experimental activities into your classroom environment that will encourage your pupils instinct to question the world around them, discover how things work and excite their imaginations. This will be delivered by Coventry Transport Museums Family Learning Officer, Anja.
