Creative in Nature
In 2024, the Herbert’s Learning and Engagement Team worked with pupils from Ash Green School in Coventry in a special project funded by the Museums & Schools programme (an initiative of Arts Council England and the DCMS).
Year 10 GCSE Art students produced their own artworks, over two days, working alongside practising artists Stuart Robinson and Anita Zychniewicz (known as ‘Creative in Nature’).
Using natural forms as inspiration, including insects, plants, fruit and vegetables, the students produced a series of prints using collagraphy and dry-point etching techniques. The finished artworks were then displayed in the Herbert’s galleries alongside the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition.
As part of the project the students were also able to pay a visit to the V&A in London, one of the Herbert’s major partner museums.
The Museums & Schools programme has funded many such projects and collaborations in recent years. This has enabled the Herbert to work with Coventry pupils, expanding their knowledge and experience of the arts and encouraging them in their own artistic pursuits.
