Blackout, Rationing and Evacuees

KS1 & 2

75-minute facilitated session

Cost: £130 per class (up to 32 pupils)

In this workshop, pupils will use STEM skills to investigate life during WW2, and will learn more about the blackout, rationing, and evacuees from a Coventry perspective. This session includes the walk-through Blitz Experience exhibition and uses vehicles on display, other primary and secondary sources and practical activities to deepen their understanding.

Teacher note:

  • Combine this session with Coventry at War, to give your pupils the experience of two museums in one day.
  • This session is an ideal part of a KS2 local history study exploring the Second World War. It can also be adapted for Year 2 pupils who have sufficient prior knowledge, supporting their studies of significant historical events in the local area or changes within living memory.
